By far the NHL FINALS have been much better, tonight the NHL could grab some new fans as well, if this GAME 7 were to be a classic!

Call me a boring old man, but I like the MLB playoffs the best.

I have more respect for a sport which only invites top 25% (8 of 30) of teams to the big dance.

NBA = 16 of 29 teams make the playoffs = 55%!!!
NHL = 16 of 30 ..around 53%

I see no reason why a team that is the bare average deserves to make the playoffs.

When was the last time you heard a 76ers fan worried about winning the Atlantic Division? How many NBA fans could even tell you that there is an Atlantic divison?

I mean, I don't even see the point of having an East and a West in basketball or hockey anymore. If you are just going to take the top 8 teams in record from each conference, why not take the top 16 from the whole league and just seed them 1-16, 2-15, and so on. Then everyone can have the Kings-Lakers final they want and it will be for the big cheese.

Let me pose a very unlikely scenario. I'm not even sure if its mathematically possible, but it probably is:

Say one year the NBA Central division, (Detroit, Indy, New Orleans, Bucks, Hawks, Bulls, Raptors and Cavs) ALL had better records than the Nets, who won a horrid Atlantic division with a record of 40-42.

The nets would win their divison and miss the playoffs! What then is the point of having a division in the first place?

It blows my mind....

The division winners in the conference get the top 2 seeds in the playoffs in the NBA.

I stand corrected. I still think they could do well to cut the field down to 4 teams from the west and 4 from the east.

And to answer the question of the thread, the NHL playoffs are like 15 times more exciting than the NBA playoffs.

I'm a college basketball fan. I think the NHL's playoffs are also more exciting to watch. However, that is only due to the referee's in the NBA being so obvious favorable to certain players and teams. I wonder how many times a team has gotten shafted from the scam of refereeing in the NBA?

If you grew up in Canada, there was only one dream (a sweeping generalization of course) any kid has - that is to score the winning goal in OT to win the Stanley Cup for the Leafs (or whoever). I must have scored that goal a million times. Tonight, I think a lot of players are thinking the same thing and there is probably nothing more exciting than a game 7 to decide the cup.

Some stats are on the Devil's side tonight:
-11-1 at home this year in the playoffs
-Last win by Ana in NJ - 1996
-11/12 winners on game 7 finals were home teams since the 7 game format started

J-man, it is hard to answer the question from a series pov, but ANY game 7 (any sport I think) is unbelievably tense because of the finality of it - much more so than if one team is up say 3-1 in games. Also, in the NHL, the refs tend to put away the whistle in the finals. Tonight you'll see very few power plays and if the game is close in the third, probably none or just offsetting penalties.

Ducks have this going for them.

Angels won the world series
Lakers are nba champs
USC was the best college football team
so looks like Ducks will complete the sweep

And Anaheim will be the official city of champions. also Ducks want it more

College bowl games 1st (especially if you attended a college in the mix)

NFL playoffs 2nd.

Each game means EVERYTHING in football. If the NCAA officials werent even more biased than the NBA refs then we would have an NCAA football playoffs, and that would rival World Cup soon
